Maine is home to some of the Appalachian Trail's coolest villages. Monson and Millinocket are two favorites of hikers and adventurers. There's another place you'll want to visit. The best time to go is the weekend of September 2-3, 2016. That's when the 5th Annual Rangeley Trail Town Festival will be going on.

The good times begin to roll on Friday at 7 PM with the Maine Outdoor Film Festival -- to be held indoors at the Rangeley Inn. Purchase a $5 ticket and get free snacks; kids under 12 get in for $2.

The main event commences on Saturday around 10 AM at the park on Pond Street in the Appalachian Trail Community of Rangeley, Maine.

Celebrate the outdoors with games and activities for all, including Gifford's Ice Cream Eating Contest and a marshmallow roast.

Yes, the ice cream is free for thru-hikers! Vendors will be on hand, along with arts & crafts, interesting exhibits and a raffle.

Denny Breau will be there with music that is sure to brighten up your hike. If you get hungry, look for the BMC food truck or hit one of the local restaurants for lahb-stah rolls or a good-old burger and fries with old and new friends.

The Appalachian Trail is just up the road a piece. Could it be calling you to Katahdin?
