On October 22, 2015, the Appalachian Trail through Baxter State Park to the top of Baxter Peak / Mt. Katahdin was open for winter hiking.

When will the Trail close for the year? "When the weather gets bad." Evidently, some snow and ice isn't enough.

Hike your own hike, but an up-and-down day hike of Katahdin in the winter takes special preparation.

BSP's Facebook page will let us know when the Trail shuts down for the 2015 season.
