Julie Judkins, our pal with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), announces the latest Appalachian Trail Community: Wind Gap, Pennsylvania.
Hundreds of towns in 14 states line the Appalachian Trail. Only those who pledge to support, protect and promote the Trail are considered for membership in the exclusive ranks of Appalachian Trail Communities. We're grateful for Wind Gap's care for AT hikers.
A ceremony with representatives from ATC, the BATONA Hiking Club and the AMC's Delaware Valley Chapter will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at the Gap Theater in Wind Gap, 50 miles southeast of Scranton. It's free!
In the words of ATC's Director of Education and Outreach Julie Judkins, "The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is proud to celebrate Wind Gap as an AT Community partner in Pennsylvania that is helping to protect and promote the Appalachian Trail. These new partnerships increase local stewardship of public lands, support community initiatives for sustainable economic development and conservation planning and support healthy lifestyles for community citizens."
"We hope to develop a lifelong commitment to sustaining the Appalachian Trail for future generations," said George Hinton, president of Wind Gap Borough Council.
