Saturday, June 6, 2015, is National Trails Day.
According to the organizers, "National Trails Day events will take place in every state across the country and will include hikes, biking and horseback rides, paddling trips, birdwatching, geocaching, gear demonstrations, stewardship projects and more."
Our friends with the Maine Appalachian Trail Club have an event planned that is perfect for National Trails Day.
MATC Caretakers live on the Appalachian Trail from May through mid-October at the high-traffic areas of Gulf Hagas, Piazza Rock and Horns Pond.
These individuals teach Leave No Trace and low-impact camping ethics to hikers while monitoring the terrain and environment for any encroachments.
You can help our Gulf Hagas Caretaker establish base camp. Backpack in supplies while hiking a scenic trail near the Katahdin Iron Works. The site is about a half a mile from the parking area.
- Date: Saturday, June 6, 2015
- Location: Katahdin Iron Works Gate House
- For more information, email Janice Clain: email@example.com
Other National Trails Day events are planned in all 50 states. There's bound to be one that will interest you, if Maine is too far to travel.
