Come to Trail Day in Pawling, NY, on Sunday, October 19, 2014

Our friends with the Harlem Valley Appalachian Trail Community hope you'll come and join the fun for their first Trail Day on Sunday, October 19, 2014, rain or shine.

The kind folks at Native Landscapes Garden Center in Pawling, NY, will host the family-friendly celebration from 11 AM until 3 PM.

The purpose of Trail Day is to throw a bit of a party for the Appalachian Trail and its thru-hikers, section hikers, day hikers and for the hard-working volunteers who maintain the AT, "a footpath for those who seek fellowship with the wilderness," as they say in Harlem Valley.

The Garden Center barbeque will be cooking up burgers and dogs. Salads and drinks will also be served.

Exhibits and a guided migratory bird walk by the Waterman Bird Club, along with other guided educational hikes, will send visitors into the woods during this most colorful time of the year. Lawn games, pumpkin painting, cider pressing, live music and trail yoga with Tina Power will round out the afternoon.

A discussion on invasive plants and hiker safety will be led by local landscape designers Duncan Brine and Peter Muroski. Those festivities begin promptly at 11:00.

Trail Day is sponsored by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, the New York New Jersey Trail Conference, the Harlem Valley Appalachian Trail Community and Native Landscapes and Garden Center.

If you can't bring a friend with you, the Harlem Valley Appalachian Trail Community will be happy to share a few of theirs with you.
