Forget Mad Max. If we survive the apocalypse, I think we should let the folks involved with planning the Duncannon Appalachian Trail Festival rule the world.
The Duncan Appalachian Trail Community is a dedicated group of Trail lovers that meets with the kind of regularity that giant corporations probably only dream about.
Have you ever worked with an organization that tells people when they're going to meet; where they're going to meet; does a great job involving others in their projects; and pops for pizza and drinks too? Then, afterward, the DATC sends out the perfect number of e-mails to let you know what you missed if you couldn't be there yourself.
More preparation might be required to pull off Trails Days in Damascus, Hot Springs or Millinocket, but the Duncannon Appalachian Trail Community volunteers exhibit the same kind of excellence in preparing their Appalachian Trail Festival, in my humble opinion.
They've spent a year getting things in shape for their Appalachian Trail Festival that will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014. They have so much planned for folks that they had to hold the festival on the longest day of the year to get everything done before it gets dark.
Come for the exhibits, entertainment, food, arts & crafts, free hikes, new friends or simply to shake the hands of the Warrior Hikers who will be honored guests.
I love how the DATC phrased their invitation:
We are eager to share the pride and enthusiasm of being part of a national treasure. Join us for a family-friendly festival while learning about the Appalachian Trail and other outdoor opportunities in Central PA.
Duncannon's Appalachian Trail Festival will be an excellent adventure, indeed.
Need something to do the rest of the year? Get involved with the DATC.
You might find a volunteer opportunity that suits you in any number of fields such as: planning our next 2014 DATC Festival, fundraising, supporting the Duncannon Outdoor Club, learning about Appalachian Trail maintenance and inspiring people to enjoy outdoor activities in the Duncannon area.
