Damascus, Virginia, is always a pretty town. Healthy too.

You can't go far without bumping into somebody who is running or bicycling or hiking one of the several trails that converge nearby.

Damascus probably has the highest people-in-Gor-Tex to cotton-clad-citizen ratio in the nation. Don't worry, if you're new in town. You can buy some there.

During Trail Days you can buy anything that can be worn or used to get into and/or live in the woods.

Damascus gets a little crazy during Trail Days. OK. Actually, Damascus get a lot crazy during Trail Days.

If you're having a hard time finding fun where you are, happy folks at Trail Days will share some of their fun times with you. Not a problem.

Due to a bit of previous madness by tens of thousands of rowdies at previous Trail Days events, there are now rules for whom you can soak or not soak during the Hiker Parade and water gun fight. There is, however, no specific, published, rule against hikers using truck mounted water cannons. Yet.

Looks like a chance of rain and maybe a few thunderstorms. Not a problem for Appalachian Trail thru-hikers who -- hello? -- live outdoors. Flatlanders and insiders are welcome to bring an umbrella ... or buy a dandy one in Damascus.

Shy hikers and folks who don't like crowds are invited to party with other like-minded folks at the anti-Trail Days events all along the Appalachian Trail and in nearby forests. Just tell them "Jason" sent you.

Not convinced you're ready for Trail Days? Take a look at this schedule. There's stuff to do for all levels of madness at Trail Days -- even for beginners.
