Herds and hordes of hikers are heading toward Damacus, Virginia, to party hearty at Trail Days later this month.
It's not the most picturesque word picture, but imagine a big long snake that is digesting a recent rat. That lump is similar to what is referred to as "the bubble" of hikers on the Appalachian Trail. It's the equivalent of a traffic jam in the wilderness.
If I understand correctly, the bubble is in North Carolina and Tennessee. They'll arrive in Damascus, just across the Tennessee border, in plenty of time.
Estimated times of arrival are always weather dependent. The thunderstorms predicted for the Damascus region this weekend won't help too much.
As of Wednesday, May 7th, no severe weather warnings have been issued but that doesn't mean they won't be.
