Unless we get a better offer, we journalists are totally committed to publishing the truth and nothing but the truth.
(Except, of course, when it comes to advertising, dating profiles, diet scams, autobiographies, quotes from politicians and anything spit out by local, state or federal governmental agencies.)
That's why we verified our facts when we read the rumors that all motel rooms in Pearisburg, Virginia -- an Appalachian Trail Community -- were sold out Monday thru Friday for the next two years.
Oddly enough, that rumor is mostly true. Motels are sold out weekdays in Pearisburg, but they're open for reservations on weekends at least through the end of 2014.
The Celanese corporation is converting its coal-fired generators in Pearisburg to natural gas power. That will require an enormous amount of labor. Therefore, the company's contractors have rented rooms during the week to house the necessary workforce.
Our friends at Woods Hole Hostel in Pearisburg would be happy to give you a place to rest your head (and everything attached to it) whenever you'd like. As long as they're not sold out. Phone ahead: 540-921-3444.
