The mission of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) is to preserve and manage the Appalachian Trail - ensuring that its vast natural beauty and priceless cultural heritage can be shared and enjoyed today, tomorrow, and for centuries to come.

One of the most clever and effective ways the ATC fulfills its mission for the future is the professional development program for K-12 teachers known as The Trail to Every Classroom (TTEC).

Launched in 2006, in partnership with the National Park Service, The Trail to Every Classroom program provides educators with the tools and training for place-based education and service-learning on the Appalachian Trail (AT).

Educators are provided with the resources needed to engage their students, while growing academically and professionally themselves.

The program was developed to:

  • Engage youth in volunteer activities
  • Encouraging a love of learning
  • Promote healthy lifestyles
  • Create a conservation ethic
  • Form a respect for the AT
