America's favorite long-distance path isn't just for hikers. As this list of 2014 Appalachian Trail events attests, you can have a blast hiking or celebrating the Trail from Georgia to Maine.
From the earliest days of 2014, hundreds of hikers were online comparing gear lists, claiming trail names and generally obsessing about hitting the Appalachian Trail in March, heading north toward Maine's Mount Katahdin.
Most of us won't be hiking the 2,185 miles with them -- fighting blisters, rain, discouragement, bruises, sore toes and mice -- but we can meet them along the way at festivals and Appalachian Trail events.
No, it's not as much fun as thru-hiking, but it's cheaper, less time-consuming and far less exhausting.
Appalachian Trail events also provide opportunities to give a bit of Trail Magic to our heroes hiking America's Trail to fame, if not fortune.
