Winner Chosen in Appalachian Trail Conservancy Video Contest

Published Nov 12, 2013

I am the AT video contest"We are followers of the White Blazes."

Simple words from a profoundly poignant video about the Appalachian Trail.

Excerpts from "Hitched Hike's" video blogs were beautifully condensed into a three-minute feature and submitted to the 2013 video contest sponsored by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC).

On November 12, 2013, Hitched Hike's "We Are the Appalachian Trail" video was named the winner of this year's contest. 2013 thru-hikers "Little Engine," "Timber" and "Ambassador" vividly illustrated the path they trod from Georgia to Maine on the AT.

There were many amazing videos in the competition. Too many to choose only one as the best, perhaps; but, if only one could be selected, this was an honorable choice.

I watched their presentation a half-dozen times ... until tears came to my eyes. The father in me wants to tell them, "I am SO proud of you!"

The ATC asked the clever among us to create video presentations that answered the question: "How are you a part of the Appalachian Trail?"

They gave these hints:

  • What makes you a part of the AT community?
  • Do you volunteer on the Trail?
  • Do you share your passion for the AT with friends and family?
  • Are you active in an Appalachian Trail Community(TM)?

The Grand Prize winner's video will be honored several ways:

  1. It will be screened at ATC's 2014 Membership Drive.
  2. The winner will receive an ATC ENO(TM) hammock.
  3. The winner will be featured in A.T. Journeys (The Official Magazine of the A.T.).
  4. The video will be highlighted on ATC's social media pages.
