The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) has been entrusted with the stewardship of the Appalachian Trail (AT). The ATC, along with many groups that assist in a wide variety of roles, is the primary caretaker of America's most beloved pathway.
"Many hands make light work," according to the old saying.
ATC is seeking more hands to help share the many loads they bear on behalf of the AT.
Membership drives will be held in 15 cities across the U.S. during October. Each meeting will include a viewing of the motion picture, Appalachian Impressions.
One of the goals is to gain 2,180 new members: one for each mile of the AT, which spectacularly links Georgia to Maine ... and hikers to one another.
Appalachian Impressions is an epic story about hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. The program takes viewers on a six-month, 2,180-mile journey along the most famous long-distance Trail in the world. You will hear tales from hikers accepted the challenge this trek presents and experience the thrills and challenges of daily life on the Trail. The film covers all fourteen states, the changing of the seasons, choices of gear, food, shelters, volunteer trail crews and Leave No Trace Ethics. The movie captures the essence of this historic path, its interesting characters, beautiful scenery and the generous spirit found in small-town America.
Each city will feature several guest speakers including authors, volunteers, key members of the AT community and 2,000-milers. You'll meet and hear from folks such as:
