The weather on Saturday, March 30, 2013, was nearly perfect in and around Franklin, NC.

Perfect for going outdoors for a hike, motorcycle ride or to attend the April Fool's Trail Days Festival honoring the Appalachian Trail (AT) ... or any combination thereof.

Winter was almost forgotten -- by most of us.

The Warrior Hikers who plodded and camped in heavy snow on their way to Franklin had a harder time forgetting the cold ... but the music, food and friendly folks warmed their hearts.

All but one of the men and women selected to take part

in Walk Off the War were there.

One Warrior Hiker got off to a late start, but is making good time to join the happy crew.

We say it all the time, but it's always true. The town was bubbling over with great toe-tapping music, friendly vendors, helpful and knowledgeable authorities, and delicious food.

When festivals flow so effortlessly, it's easy to presume the planning was a piece of cake.

Sounds simple.

Like folks who've been married forever who say the key is "just be nice to each other and never go to bed angry."

Kudos to the entire crew for a remarkably comfortable, friendly time.

We hope to see you next year at April Fool's Trail Days.
