The Woody Gap Trailhead, located on Georgia's Highway 60 at the Union County line, will be closed in order to repave the parking area.

The closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 13, 2012. Completion is expected on Saturday, August 18th. Parking lots and picnic areas on both sides of Route 60 will be closed for the duration of the project.

Chestatee Overlook is a few miles south of Woody Gap on Route 60. The parking lot and picnic area there will also be repaved. The overlook will be closed from Monday, August 20, 2012 and will reopen on Saturday, August, 25th.

The areas will be clearly marked with notices two weeks in advance of the closures. Any vehicles parked in the lots during the closures will be towed at the owners' expense. Alternate access points to the Appalachian Trail include Neels Gap on Hwy 129, Amicalola Falls access trail off Hwy 52, and other access points along Forest Service Road 42.
