Dahlonega, GA’s Trail Fest: March 14-16th, 2014
You might call it Spring on Springer, Trail Fest or “the party that celebrates the season that Appalachian Trail (AT) thru-hikers head north to Mt. Katahdin.”
Pick a name and join the fun Friday through Sunday, March 14th through the 16th.
Dahlonega (pronounced “dahlonega”) is an Appalachian Trail Community that’s about 20 lovely miles from the dropoff point to the AT trailhead at Springer Mountain, near Amicalola Falls State Park.
On summer weekends, it’s the perfect place for free bluegrass music around the town square.
For lovers of the Appalachian Trail, Dahlonega is best known for this Trail Festival, which is held around the first day of spring. This year the vernal equinox occurs on Thursday, March 20th.
Hiking gear vendors, hikers, music lovers and more hikers gather to hear folks talk about their time on the trail and to encourage you to follow in their footsteps.
Trail Fest organizers have put in a ton of work on their website, but I personally prefer their Facebook page. Choose whichever one you like, but check out Trail Fest and make plans to join us in one of America’s coolest towns to send the latest flock of thru-hikers off with the Trail’s first party for 2014.
We’ll see you there.
